It has been a crazy last 12 months in the National Hockey League. This has been the greatest renovation in the history of sports. They changed just about everything. The NHL is nothing like what it was a few years ago. It looks like it will be a completely new game with new rules, new salary structure and a new television partner. Now, if you have been a fan for years and you think you know the game, well, we are guessing that this year you looking into the unknown. We know one thing for sure and that is that no one has a clue on how hockey will look like this year.
As a matter of fact you might not even see the games. No we’re not kidding. OLN (Outdoor Living Network) only reaches a little over 70% of the homes in the United States and Canada that ESPN did. ESPN had about 90 millions subscribers compared to the 65 millions home OLN can reach.
Will hockey be a faster game with
more scoring?
There are a few indicators that say, yes. Hey, what’s with the no more ties rule? Sure it is better to have the old win/loss but is the sudden death shootout the way to go? And what about the goalies? They lose about 11% padding. Guess that would be ok if they could still freeze the puck but with the new rules they can’t anymore. Man, that’s gotta hurt. Then just when you thought you knew the game they went and moved the lines on you. Where did the red line go? Sorry, guys we don’t have one anymore.
